Scoring methodology

How the ATSTune ATS match score is calculated

The ATSTune score summarizes how well one resume supports one target job description. It is designed as an explainable editing diagnostic—not a prediction of an employer’s decision and not a score produced by the employer’s ATS.

Five weighted dimensions

DimensionWeightWhat it examines
Job match35%Alignment with the target role’s responsibilities, requirements, and expected scope.
Skills alignment25%Coverage of relevant skills and whether matched terms can be located in the resume.
Experience relevance20%Evidence that past work, projects, or training supports the target role.
ATS compatibility15%Parsing clarity, standard sections, readable structure, dates, and file content.
Resume quality5%Clarity, completeness, professional wording, and usefulness to a human reader.

Keyword matches require text evidence

A model-suggested match is not accepted automatically. ATSTune searches the current resume’s structured text fields for the term, stores the section path and a short excerpt, and moves unsupported matches back to the missing list.

Skills alignment is capped by the proportion of keywords for which the service can locate text evidence. A resume with no located keyword evidence cannot retain a high skills score solely because a model inferred related experience.

Normalization and frozen standards

  • Missing, duplicated, unknown, non-numeric, or out-of-range dimensions are normalized conservatively.
  • The overall score is recalculated from the normalized five dimensions.
  • When a maintained role profile is used, its requirements and evidence standard are frozen with that analysis.
  • A derived resume is compared against the original analysis baseline instead of a newly changed standard.
  • Low alignment is a valid result; a genuine resume and genuine job description are not rejected merely because they are a poor match.

How to interpret the score

Use the number to compare versions of the same resume against the same job and to identify which dimension needs attention. Do not treat a particular threshold as a universal pass mark.

The strongest action is usually not adding every missing phrase. It is connecting the most important requirement to accurate evidence in the summary, skills, experience, or projects section.
